Nikon F might be the camera that gave Nikon the boost it needed to become the player it is today. Although Nikon was always a major contributor to the camera scene the F series set them apart. Introduced in 1959 it was Nikons first SLR camera. Before the F series they manufactured point and shoots and rangefinder cameras. Nikon’s F bodies where adopted by many professional photographers and where a favorite until Nikon went full digital. The F series differentiated themselves by being extremely durable and by having super precise internal mechanics. The F bodies where sent up into space for the Skylab project with NASA astronauts. Furthermore photojournalists choose this camera to be there with them during the Vietnam war. This gives a good indication of the durability of this piece of wonder.

The F series introduced the F mount system. This lens mounting system was used up until the first digital cameras where introduced. Because of the length of life this mounting system has there are still many lenses available for this body (and its successors).
