The Leica R3 was the first in its series. It succeeded the Leicaflex SL and was a huge commercial succes. The development was done together with Minolta. Therefore, the camera resembles the Minolta XE bodies. Leica and Minolta developed a special CLS electronic focal plane shutter which was only used by Leica and Minolta. Leica further developed the metering system making it possible to do selective as well as centre weight metering. Furthermore, the Leica R3 was the first Leica SLR camera that had an automatic function. The aperture priority chose the correct shutter speed for the, set by the operator, aperture.
This version comes in the original box with its original paperwork.
