The Yashica-A was developed to be a cheap camera that is accessible to the larger public. This, however, did not have any effect on the image quality this camera produces. But more on that later. The Yashica-A is a TLR (twin lens reflex) type camera. This means it has two lenses, one to look through whilst focussing and one that takes the picture. The waist level viewfinder is bright and easy to look through making focussing a blast, the pop up magnifying glass makes fine focus a breeze too. The lenses on this model are outstanding. The lens produces crisp images when stopped down and creates beautiful bokeh when opened up completely.
This is a great first medium format camera for someone that wants to start experimenting with 120 film. Furthermore, I would not recommend this camera to a novice photographer. You will need an external light meter and have some technical know how about different lighting conditions in order to use the camera properly.
