Ilford Multigrade V RC Deluxe is a premium quality, 190 g/m² black & white variable contrast paper on a bright white resin coated base. Introduced in 2020, it is the 5th generation of the world’s most popular range of black & white photo papers.
The new paper utilizes the latest emulsion technology and has a more neutral base tone and a slightly warmer image tone than Ilford’s Multigrade IV, its predecessor. As a result the product is now more clearly positioned between Multigrade RC Cooltone and Multigrade RC Warmtone. It also has a higher maximum density — the better blacks are giving more depth to the prints, and it has a slightly extended tonal range compared to Multigrade IV.
Multigrade V RC Deluxe is approximately 1 stop faster than Multigrade IV RC Deluxe and no longer has a large step change in exposure between grade 3.5 and grade 4. Ilford has designed the new paper to be easy to print from most negatives and the new paper has a smoother characteristic curve (no steps) and therefore a more consistent contrast response throughout the tonal range.
It is now easier than ever to get stunning darkroom prints and this paper is the perfect choice for beginners, students and darkroom pro’s delivering a full tonal range and exceptional image quality throughout its wide contrast range. Seven full grades of contrast can be achieved when used with Ilford Multigrade filters. Additionally, these papers offer excellent toning properties, giving those who want to experiment or learn to tone paper, an alternative starting option to Ilford’s fibre-based papers.
Multigrade V RC Deluxe can be used with most common safelights for black & white darkroom paper.
Multigrade V RC Deluxe is available in glossy, pearl and satin surfaces and a variety of sheet and roll sizes. Multigrade RC papers are also available in cool tone and warm tone variants.
