Description:

Fomatone MG Classic is a variable-contrast, warm tone, black and white photo paper. The silver chlorobromide emulsion results in a paper with a rich half-tone scale over all contrast grades and saturated blacks. Coated on a 280 g/m² double weight fibre / baryta base, this paper produces outstanding results. It is available in a glossy, matt and fine grain surface. The paper is specially designed for portrait photography and retro style works.

Its contrast can be varied in a large extent from extra soft up to ultra-hard by using colour filters at exposure. The paper is manufactured using a special silver chlorobromide emulsion that gives the silver image a brown-green to warm-brown tone that can further be influenced by the type of developer used.

The paper base involved is coloured in compliance with the tone of the developed silver. This accentuates rich scale of warm halftones ranging from light cream up to saturated brown-to-green black ones. Regarding its low speed, the paper is designed primarily for contact work, however, it can be used as an enlargement paper as well. Special silver chlorobromide emulsion of this paper enables users to use “lith processing”.

Fomatone MG Classic can be processed both manually in trays and automatically in roller developing machines approved for photographic papers on fibre paper base. The processing procedure does not differ substantially from that for other Foma photo papers. All common developers are suitable. Fomatol LQN, Fomatol P and Fomatol PW developers are recommended though, for their brown-green and warm-brown image tone respectively. Fomatol PW has been developed specifically for this paper.

Fomatone MG Classic is routinely processed at indirect safety illumination with wavelength of 610 nm and higher. The corresponding colour of safety illumination is orange or red. Because of its low sensitivity, the paper can be exposed to safety illumination for longer period than Foma’s common types of black and white papers.

Fomatone MG Classic is manufactured in three different surfaces: glossy (131), matt (132) and fine grain (133) and in standard sheet and roll sizes.

Note October 2020:

The silver chlorobromide emulsion of Fomatone MG Classic allows you to use this paper for “lith processing”.
