The Minolta X-500 is a semi-automatic SLR camera. It can be used fully manually or in aperture priority, where the photographer chooses the aperture and the camera calculates the best shutter speed for a proper exposure. The Minolta X range was marketed as the high end category cameras. Even though the X-series are not quite pro level the X-700 was awarded camera of the year in 1981. Although the X-500 is marketed as a cheaper alternative to its counterpart the X-700 some photographers would choose the X-500 over the X-700. This is because of the way manual usage of the camera is implemented. Not only does the viewfinder show the settings the camera recommends using it also shows the settings the photographer is set at the moment. This makes the camera very user friendly and quicker to use in manual that its counterpart.
The fast 50mm lens on this X-500 is rated ‘like new’. This means that there is little to no wear on the outside of the lens and the glass and other internals are in perfect working condition. A real catch!
Because the X-500 does not have a fully automatic P mode the camera is best suited for the more seasoned beginner film shooter.
